This week I thought I’d talk about something a lot of us love and miss, sports. Since all the large sports organizations are shut down currently and we are unable to watch anything but highlights and 30 for 30’s we forget about the amazing sports films that have came out. Sports movies for me have a different emotional feel they are exciting, sad, and hopeful all wrapped into one and you didn’t have to play sports in high school to appreciate them. I want to share my top 5 sports movies that I’ve probably watched dozens of times each.
5.) The Sandlot (1993)
This movie was just a childhood delight for us millennial and many of us can relate to it having a special place in our hearts. It isn’t the most emotional or inspiring movie to be honest but it just has that hall of fame factor that makes it able to be in this countdown.

4.) The Longest Yard (2005)
Although this was a remake many people just call this the original thing. Adam Sandler did an amazing job as acting like a prison yard quarterback while being supported by some outstanding actors. This movie has it all it’s emotional, intense, and absolutely hilarious. I do not think this movie has gotten enough recognition since it’s came out but if you’re looking for a good laugh an a good Adam Sandler movie give it a watch.

3.) Coach Carter (2005)
Coach Carter takes a more emotional side of sports movies. It tells the story of racial divide and how sports can seem like an out for low income students and families. Coach Carter proves through the ups and the downs that he can turn a group of students who don’t even believe in themselves that they can do anything when they set their mind to it and have a little discipline.

2.) Remember the Titans (2000)
Remember the Titans is a little different because not only does it tell the story of a talented football story, it expresses the intensity of racism in schooling when segregation ended and a compelling tale on how this coach decided to handle it. Denzel does a wonderful job at acting as the hard earning but caring coach that is set out to single handedly win football games and put an end to racial divide.

Moneyball (2011)
I enjoyed Moneyball so much because it is so much different than a traditional sports movie. It tells the story of a general manager faced with the ongoing battle of having to compete with big budget baseball teams and having trouble winning, but with a little help he finds a way. This movie is emotional and informational in a way but Brad Pitt makes you hope that the Oakland A’s succeed anyway they can.
